Extended Learning: the following websites offer excellent training modules to extend your learning in Moving Assistive Technology Supports forward in the School Setting

Introduction:
New technology can be great but who has the time to learn how to turn it on, program, set it up and then really integrate it with the student’s academic goals and work? Teachers, clinicians and support staff have to collaborate to make it all come together. School teams need to learn about technology supports that could be used in the school, identify student needs, learn how to make it work and leave with a student focused plan for both inclusion and skill development. Teams require support on ways to collect data, collaborate in the school, observe if the plan is working or not and make adjustments to encourage a better way. Throughout the school year teams need to measure their student’s progress, identify what they learned along the way and determine what the next step of the plan might be. Opportunity for supported training on the student’s technology continues to be a need for successful implementation.
Autism Spectrum Disorders http://www.autisminternetmodules.org/index.php  This is an excellent resource to learn about ASD and learning strategies such as visuals, visual scheduling, Pecs, structured work stations etc. Video demonstrations are embedded into many modules.
BoardMaker v. 6 Plus www.mayer-johnson.com  Use BoardMaker to make visuals. Refer to the ATS BoardMaker Resources handout for instructions http://www2.sunrisesd.ca/school/studentsupport/Programs/AssistiveTechnology%20Supports/Pages/Default.aspx
Using Technology www.pisp.ca Student focused goals and objectives that integrate the use of technology tools and strategies.
Literacy Supports:
Speech Recognition http://www.atinternetmodules.org/ Still in development. There is a module introducing speech recognition.
Electronic Word Wall – use Power Point to make an electronic word wall. http://www2.sunrisesd.ca/school/studentsupport/Programs/AssistiveTechnology%20Supports/Pages/Default.aspx

School teams must focus on the goal that the student is working towards (as decided by the IEP team) that requires some technology tools/supports. Refer to the SETT framework to plan and coordinate trials of technology tools or supports and direct your data collection efforts.
